This powerful declaration by Kiingi Tuheitia was shared at the Hui aa Motu 2024 (national unity hui) at Tuurangawaewae marae, during a year of significant advocacy for Māori rights. The gathering was strategically organised by the Kiingitanga to address pressing issues affecting te iwi Māori, such as land rights, mana motuhake, tino rangatiratanga, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the preservation and revitalisation of te reo Māori and cultural practices. It underscored the urgency and importance of kotahitanga and dialogue among iwi across Aotearoa, and served as a platform for leaders and members of various iwi to come together, share their whakaaro, and collaboratively form strategies to advance the collective interests and well-being of Māori. The hui was also a response to growing concerns over governmental policies affecting Māori rights and the broader implications of these issues on future generations.
